With over 34 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist in both pediatric and adult services, I offer supportive and practical mentorship to new graduates starting their practice or new to practice OTs who are shifting to a community and/or school-based practice.
Over my career, I have preceptored over 100 OT students, participated in the learning of OT students as a facilitator in problem-based tutorials, as a lecturer and as a TA. I completed my Master’s Degree in Science in a post-graduate, research and thesis course that advanced and honed my critical thinking skills in a way that permitted me to focus, as a Clinical Practice Leader, on knowledge to practice and clinical practice application of college standards.
Recently, I shifted my personal focus to mentorship and training of new graduates and new-to-practice clinicians entering the school-based rehab sector.
My intention as a mentor is to focus on clinical reasoning by leveraging “just-in-time”, case-based learning to develop critical thinking and analysis skills. I will help to focus your learning through the prism of theoretical knowledge to practice. I will assist you in developing your confidence with realistic case discussion that will give you valuable feedback and practical learning.
This collaborative process permits you to bring whatever clinical problem you want to hypothetically discuss to the session; that discussion can focus on how to operationalize your theoretical learning or it can be a discussion of considerations for consent in the clinical situation or how to best document in a way that is stakeholder sensitive and college compliant.
As a mentor, my mission is to cultivate your clinical critical thinking skills in order for you to be confident in your developing clinical reasoning skills.
